When specifying custom hang tags with QR code, approve the destination as carefully as the printed artwork. A code may scan successfully and still open an expired campaign, the wrong product page or a page that the buyer cannot maintain. Give the print supplier an approved code asset and keep responsibility for the linked experience visible in the purchase brief.
This guide covers web-destination ownership and handoff. Use the barcode artwork and scan approval checklist for symbol layout, printed-sample checks and any required verification. Neither a destination review nor one phone scan replaces those checks.
Planning your order? Explore custom printed hang tags, or request a QR hang tag quote. Include the approved code asset, destination owner, artwork revision, card specification and quantity by version. Keep website maintenance responsibility separate from printed-tag approval.
Separate the printed code from the final page
Record the exact value that the code encodes and the page the buyer expects a customer to reach. They may be the same address, or the encoded address may redirect to another page. Ask the buyer’s website owner to confirm the arrangement before artwork is released; a printer should not choose the destination from a search result or invent a replacement link.
If a redirect or a code-management service is involved, identify who controls it, who can change the destination and what service conditions need to remain in place. Do not assume that every QR code can be changed after printing. Have the responsible owner confirm what the proposed implementation actually allows.
| Record | Buyer confirms | Release evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Encoded value | Exact approved address or supplied code asset | Filename and revision tied to the tag version |
| Expected destination | Approved product, collection or information page | Actual page opened from the finished sample |
| Control and maintenance | Website or redirect owner and review responsibility | Named owner and agreed maintenance period |
| Version mapping | Which tag versions share a destination | Tag ID, quantity and destination register |
Review the customer journey on the intended device
Open the destination from a sample in the normal customer workflow. Check the actual page title, product or collection identity, language and essential information. Record any login requirement, unavailable page or unexpected redirect for the website owner to resolve. An enlarged artwork image does not show whether the landing page works on a customer’s phone.
State what the shopper should do after opening the link, such as view product details or find a size guide. Have the buyer approve that destination content separately from the hang tag’s printed wording. A correct URL does not by itself establish that the page content or any claim on it has been approved.
Assign a destination lifetime before ordering
A short promotion and a garment that may remain in stock for months need different planning. Agree how long the destination must remain useful and what should happen when a product is discontinued. Record a review date and an owner who can maintain an appropriate page or redirect within the buyer’s own systems.
If the buyer wants campaign measurement, its website team should supply and approve the intended address and measurement setup. Keep private customer information out of public code content. This procurement worksheet does not establish analytics consent, attribution or a guaranteed number of scans.
Release the destination and physical tag together
Link the approved destination record to the tag artwork, stock, finish and physical sample ID. Ask the supplier to confirm the requested print layout and any scan or verification requirements against that construction. For paper and finishing decisions, retain the separate hang tag printing approval brief.
If the destination changes, the website owner should review the new journey. If the encoded value or printed code changes, identify the revised artwork and repeat the relevant printed-sample checks. Do not silently replace a file after a sample has been approved.
