When enquiring about hang tags with eyelets, specify more than a metal colour beside a hole on the artwork. The card, opening, eyelet and attachment need to be reviewed as an assembled item. A useful quotation brief tells the supplier which details are fixed, which options need a sample, and who will approve the finished tag.
This guide focuses on the hole and eyelet interface. Keep paper, printing and decorative finishes in the hang tag printing approval brief, and use the packing guide for loose components or completed sets.
Planning your order? Explore custom printed hang tags, or request an eyelet hang tag quote. Include the card and hole drawing, proposed eyelet and string, assembly format and quantity per version. Component availability and sample scope are confirmed for the assembled tag.
Specify the hole location from a finished edge
Mark the hole centre on a dimensioned drawing and state which finished edges are used as references. Include the card outline, front and back orientation, artwork revision and intended attachment. If the set contains more than one card, identify which cards are punched and which receive an eyelet; do not leave the supplier to infer this from a front photograph.
Distinguish the opening needed by the attachment from the visible outer area of the eyelet. Ask the supplier to identify the proposed component and finished opening on the sample record. A hole drawn in a digital file does not by itself confirm the opening of the assembled tag.
| Interface | Brief field | Sample decision |
|---|---|---|
| Card to hole | Centre location and finished-edge references | Position and orientation match the drawing |
| Eyelet to card | Proposed component, colour/finish and card stack | Front and back appearance approved |
| Opening to string | Finished opening and actual attachment reference | Attachment passes and assembles as intended |
| Assembly to product | Intended garment or packaging attachment point | Completed set can be handled in the buyer’s workflow |
Compare plain holes and eyelet options on the same brief
If the choice is undecided, request clearly identified options against the same card and string specification. Compare appearance, assembly steps, proposed component, quotation scope and any review requirements. An eyelet is an additional assembly component; its suitability for your project should be confirmed on the actual sample.
Do not assume that choosing a metal eyelet proves a particular pull strength, corrosion resistance or safety outcome. If your brand requires a specific test or restricted-material document, name it in the enquiry and agree the evidence and acceptance criterion separately. Feasibility and any additional work depend on the proposed construction.
Approve both faces and the actual attachment
Review the assembled tag from the front, back and edge. Identify whether the visible finish fits the brand reference, whether the component covers approved text or artwork, and whether the back appearance is acceptable. Ask the responsible production team to assess any rough edge or assembly concern before release.
Try the specified string, loop or seal with the sample rather than a convenient substitute. Record the attachment reference and the intended assembly steps. If the string must be passed through several cards, check the whole set in its agreed order. Our real paper hang tag sample case shows why cards and attachments are reviewed together; the photographs are layout references, not a test result for your eyelet.
Keep one assembled approval reference
Record approve, revise or pending for each interface in the table. Retain the agreed tag, card drawing and attachment reference together. If the paper stack, component or string changes, identify the change and ask which parts of the approval need to be repeated. Agree any relevant tolerances with the supplier rather than importing an unrelated tag’s measurements.
For multiple artwork versions, state whether the eyelet and hole arrangement are shared. List exceptions explicitly. When receiving goods, compare the version and assembly with the retained reference, including the back face, rather than checking only the printed logo.
