When requesting recycled paper hang tags, separate the paper specification from the words and logos the brand intends to print. A brown appearance, visible fibre or a supplier’s sample photograph does not establish a recycled-content percentage or permission to use a certification mark.
This guide helps buyers request comparable material evidence before choosing a stock. It does not declare that a particular CanKun paper or finished tag is certified. Availability, documented content and any permitted claim must be confirmed for the proposed order.
Write the intended claim before requesting evidence
Tell the supplier whether recycled content is simply a purchasing preference or whether a statement will appear on the finished tag. Write the proposed wording exactly. Identify whether it concerns only the paper card, a second card, the string or the entire assembled set. These are different scopes.
A request for recycled paper should identify the stock reference and the percentage or material information the buyer needs documented. If post-consumer content matters to the brief, ask for that information separately rather than assuming that all recycled fibre is post-consumer. Keep unanswered fields pending.
| Buyer requirement | Evidence to request | Decision before artwork release |
|---|---|---|
| Recycled content | Stock identification and supporting material declaration | Which exact content statement is supported? |
| Specific certification | Applicable supplier record and product/order documentation | Does it cover the proposed final supply? |
| Printed mark | Approved artwork and applicable authorisation route | Who obtains approval for this use? |
| Whole tag set | Separate card, string and accessory descriptions | Which components does the statement actually cover? |
Keep recycled content and FSC labelling separate
FSC’s official on-product label guidance distinguishes its 100%, Mix and Recycled labels. It also tells brands to verify the final-product supplier’s certification and arrange the appropriate paper and label through that supplier. Do not select a label graphic solely because the paper looks recycled.
If an FSC-labelled supply is requested, use the official FSC Search database to check the supplied organisation name and certificate or licence code. Save the actual record and date. A valid company record still needs to be connected to the proposed product and commercial documentation; it is not a blanket approval for every item shown on a website.
Compare physical stock samples without inventing environmental results
Request identifiable stock samples alongside the supporting declarations. Review colour, surface, thickness and the proposed print or finishing result for the actual design. Use the hang tag paper thickness guide to keep weight and measured thickness distinct.
If the supplier proposes a different stock during sampling, compare its documentation as well as its appearance. Two similar brown cards may have different material descriptions. Keep the approved stock reference in the purchase order so an appearance match does not silently replace a documented requirement.
Quote the evidence and artwork scope together
Ask each quotation to name the proposed stock, quantity, printed faces, finish, attachment and any claim-related work included. Record any separate documentation or artwork-approval lead time. Do not compare one offer for an unspecified kraft card with another for a specifically documented material as though only the price differs.
Keep certification graphics out of the production artwork until the relevant use has been confirmed. Retain the approved wording and supporting references with the paper, print and finish approval record. For repeat orders, check any stock substitution against that record before release.
